When a person tries to cover a classic, oftentimes they fail. But Cat Power's vesion of New York New York is a breath of fresh air. Literally. Thanks to her breathy vocals.

Oppenheimer is an Irish indie pop musical duo who achieved success in the US via sitcoms using their songs. Some of these shows are: Gossip Girl, Ugly Betty, and How I Met Your Mother. Their single, Breakfast In New York, is included in Gossip Girl's soundtrack, OMFGG.
Breakfast In NYC was released in 2006 but OMFGG was released just in 2008. Way late no?
The band performed for the last time in December of 2009. And now I'm waiting for their digital EP which is set for release this year.
It's sad, yeah... but I can't wait for Rocky and Shaun's solo projects.

I'm a sucker for songs that tell how awesome New York is. Yeah. There's New York New York (Frank Sinatra) and Empire State of Mind (Alicia Keys and Jay-Z) to name some of the famous ones.
Oh yeah, BTW, I'll be making a series of posts featuring songs about New York. Not bad!
First to be featured is Kevin Rudolf's NYC - but others call it In The City or City of Dreams. Personally, I prefer calling it NYC... In The City is the album's name. Released in 2008, this song's just found its way to my iPod last year. But it's never too late.
It's rock, pop, and hip hop in one track. Interesting.
