French Series: Je T'aime Mais

So many posts to make so little time! And most songs are in my laptop... but it's gone dunzo.

Here's for my French Series. But my French's gone rusty... and online translators don't help that much. So it's up to the melody and how words are sung to translate what the song means. It's a sad one I bet. The song's called Je T'aime Mais by Zazie. Funny though that this song is not included in Zazie's Wikipedia page. Really weird. But the friend who told me about this song is a French DJ so who am I to argue. LOL. Anyhoo, here yah go!

Sweet Tune, Deadly Lyrics

Soko is a French actress and indie singer/songwriter. Her song, I'll Kill Her, was released in 2007 and made it big in some Danish charts.

Her music career started when she had her hardcore-est (I guess) heartbreak and wrote about it. She's never released a full album... but you can hear most of her songs, included in her EP called Not Sokute, on YouTube.

It's bizarre how this song can have a sweet tune and words that are lethal at the same time... and it works!

Sure this track's English but still, it's by a French artist so it's still fit to be part of the French series.

This is how you handle heartbreaks! Make it work to your advantage. LOL.

C'est Chelou

Here's Zaho, an Algerian singer living in Canada. Her song C'est Chelou was released in 2008.

Luckily, back then a French DJ / friend saw my passion in music and shared me some great French songs. Thus my gusto in working on this French series.

It's not weird that chelou has no equivalent English term because it's not really THE word. The word is louche which means dubious, suspicious, doubtful. So it's like repa for pare in Filipino.

So there you go, it's about her "suspicions" of her partner's infidelity. And she ended up blaming Milia and Myriam. Haha. Whoever they are. But I'm sure this song is fictional.

Je sais que la terre est plate

After a few days of hiatus from blogging (had too much dealings with academics), let's go back to our French series, shall we?

Raphaël Haroche is a French singer who's been in the music industry since 2000. His latest album Je Sais Que la Terre est Plate (I know the earth is flat), released in 2008, contains tracks that are whimsical sounding but, personally, it doesn't make me wanna hit the sack.

Here's Tess by Raphaël. Oh yeah, by the way, he performs under his first name only.

I Want To See Yelle

I used to know a little French... as in LITTLE. With that I got a bit gaga over French songs. So while the NYC Series is being completed, I'll be doing a little French series as well.

First up is Je Veux Te Voir by Yelle.

Yelle is named after the lead singer, along with her are GrandMarnier (producer/writer/drums/backup vocals) and Tepr (producer/keyboards/backup vocals).

I don't really know a lot about the song, I was just introduced to it by Monsieur Pichard. All I know is that it's a fun song to listen to and it's really funky. And I guess it's a hate song. I'm just guessing... my French's gone rusty! Oh yeah, and je veux te voir means I want to see.
